Book a private DEXA scan to check your bone health, with fast local appointments and consultant-reviewed results.
A private DEXA scan is the most accurate way to check your bone density and screen for osteoporosis. This page explains what the scan involves, how referral works, and what to expect on the day.
A DEXA (DXA) scan measures how strong and dense your bones are, usually at the hip and lower spine. It is the gold-standard test used to diagnose osteoporosis, assess fracture risk, and monitor bone-strengthening treatment.
Because osteoporosis usually causes no symptoms until a bone breaks, a scan is often the only way to catch thinning bones early, while there is still plenty you can do about it.
A DEXA scan uses a low dose of radiation, so a clinical referral is required before booking. This can be a referral from your own GP, an NHS GP, or any outside clinician, or you can book an appointment with our internal GP first, who can provide the referral for you.
Yes. A DEXA scan uses a very low dose of radiation, considerably lower than a standard chest X-ray. It is non-invasive, involves no injections and needs no recovery time.
