Dr Scott Thompson

Dr Thompson qualified in medicine at the University of Aberdeen in 2004 and spent his early career in hospital medicine across Glasgow, gaining broad experience of acute and chronic disease. He was drawn to general practice for a simple reason: it is the one branch of medicine built around the whole person and the long term, not a single organ, episode or admission. He went on to spend five years as a GP partner in Glasgow before moving to Northern Ireland in 2015, where he remains a practising GP partner today. Recognising that weight sits at the centre of so much chronic disease and how poorly it is served by generic advice, Dr Thompson undertook formal postgraduate specialist training, completing a Master's degree in Obesity & Weight Management with distinction. This is a level of academic training in obesity medicine that very few doctors working in weight management in the UK hold. He has been delivering specialist, doctor-led weight management care in Northern Ireland since 2020, helping patients not only achieve meaningful weight reduction but, crucially, keep it off, while improving the conditions that so often travel with weight: type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, PCOS, sleep apnoea and joint pain. Dr Thompson's consulting style reflects his general practice roots: unhurried, judgement-free and genuinely personal. He is clear that obesity is a chronic medical condition, not a failure of willpower, and that lasting results come from understanding each patient's medical history, circumstances and goals before any treatment is considered. Every plan he writes is individual, and every patient is followed up properly, for the long term.
