About This Service

Private PRP injections for knee and joint pain in Northern Ireland, 650 pounds per single injection or 1,300 pounds for a course of three, by a consultant radiologist. A clinical referral is required. Call 028 9621 1981.

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) therapy uses the natural healing factors in your own blood to support recovery and ease joint pain. It is a popular option for knee and other joint conditions, particularly before considering surgery.

What is a PRP injection

A small sample of your blood is taken and placed in a centrifuge, which spins it to concentrate the platelets, the part of the blood that is rich in natural growth factors.

This concentrated plasma is injected into the affected joint or tissue. The growth factors are thought to support the body’s own repair process, helping to calm inflammation and encourage healing. Because PRP uses your own blood, the risk of a reaction is very low.

Do you need a referral for PRP?

A clinical referral is required before booking a PRP consultation. This can be a referral from your own GP, an NHS GP, or any outside clinician, or you can book an appointment with our internal GP first, who can provide the referral for you.

route

The treatment, step by step

  1. Consultation and assessment. A consultant radiologist examines your joint, reviews your history and imaging, and confirms whether PRP is suitable.
  2. Your blood sample. A small sample of your blood is taken and prepared on site to concentrate the platelets.
  3. The injection. The PRP is injected into the target area, often using ultrasound guidance to ensure accurate placement.

What to expect afterwards

It is normal to feel some soreness or mild swelling for a few days as the healing response gets going. PRP works gradually, and many people notice an improvement over several weeks. Some conditions respond to a single injection, others do better with a short course.
