What Is Mounjaro?
Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, a prescription medicine used to support weight management in eligible adults, alongside diet and physical activity. It belongs to a newer group of medicines that act on the gut hormones involved in appetite and blood sugar control.
How Does Mounjaro Work?
Tirzepatide acts on two hormone pathways, GIP and GLP-1. Together these help you feel fuller sooner, reduce appetite and lower how much you eat. Used within a structured programme, this can support meaningful, sustained weight loss and improvements in blood sugar. It is given as a once-weekly injection.
Who Might Mounjaro Be Suitable For?
Treatment is only considered for adults who meet clinical criteria, generally based on BMI and any weight-related conditions such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure or sleep apnoea. It is not suitable for everyone. Your clinician will assess your full medical history, current medicines and goals before any treatment is recommended.
Dosing and What to Expect
Tirzepatide is started at a low dose and increased in steps over several months. This gradual approach helps your body adjust and reduces side effects. Within our programme, your dose is reviewed and optimised at each monthly specialist review, rather than left unchanged.
Side Effects and Safety
Like all medicines, tirzepatide can cause side effects. The most common are digestive, such as nausea, reduced appetite or changes in bowel habit, and these often ease over time. Less common but more serious effects are discussed with you at assessment. A full contraindication screen is completed before any prescription, and you are monitored throughout treatment.
