What is Rheumatology?

Rheumatologists specialize in the treatment of acute and chronic joint, muscle and tendon disorders as well as a wide range of rarer autoimmune conditions. This covers conditions such as:

What will happen at your appointment?

You will be seen and assessed by an experienced Consultant Rheumatologist who will take a thorough and comprehensive history of your symptoms and background and provide a full musculoskeletal examination to arrive at a clinical diagnosis and management plan.

Will I need tests?

Many patients will get a diagnosis purely from history and clinical examination.

Tests will only be arranged if clinically appropriate. Blood tests can be sent from our blood room at clinic and if you require an x-ray or MRI this can be arranged for you. If you require an Ultrasound to aid with diagnosis this can be arranged quickly with one of our experienced Consultant Radiologists.
